Schwarzenegger EMA , also known as 'case of the violent video game'
This is the first time that the Supreme Court approved the proposal by a discussion of the states to consider restrictions on the dissemination and use of certain video games. So far, all similar laws have been blocked by the same courts of first instance as unconstitutional restrictions of free speech protected by the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution .
The petition, signed by major international players in the game industry as Atari, Electronic Arts, Sony, Bethesda Softworks, NCsoft and many others, it is proposed, specifically, to raise awareness of the Supreme Court before the case Schwarzenegger v. EMA. If the Supreme Court will agree with the terms of the court of first instance of the state of California, will confirm the game under the First Amendment protection, a status that they are equated with the other cultural media; if the Court does not agree, the game will instead be treated differently, with the possibility of future restrictions on access to them in various states of North America.
The ECA, which promotes the initiative petition, a nonprofit organization that represents consumers of multimedia works interattine in the United States and Canada.
