Carnival in Ptuj (Slovenia)

The Kurent is nothing but a loud "hunter of the winter, dressed in a fur of sheep, surrounded by a chain from which hang bells and handkerchiefs. On her head a terrifying mask, adorned with feathers, horns and colorful ribbons.
These masks are a national symbol: appear on stamps, participate in several folk events abroad and can be enjoyed year-round in the relevant section of the museum housed in the Castle.
Since 1960, Ptuj, each year organizes the popular Kurentovanje, (now known as the Carnival in Ptuj) in a festival which, together with Korant, traditional parade and carnival figures evoke land uses. From
Markovci, and Podlehnik Lančov vas, villages near Ptuj arrive "cultivators" who over the centuries Past traced the first furrows. Other masks are rusa, representing animals, the devil, the grandfather and grandmother, gypsies, fairies and ploharji (who must drag a beam through the village). Lately

In the old town is the wine cellar, which has a tradition of more than 700 years and retains the oldest Slovenian wine (1917). A
Cerknica however, the symbolic figure shooting in forms (which is no trace in documents of 1551) is that of Ursula, an old witch, with a tooth, and hump himself, always straddled the broom is considered the progenitor and the progenitor of all the witches.
This is a figure from the time of the Reformation when Cerknica was epicenter of the witch hunt. Cerknica is "visited" even JEZERKA, a legendary monster of Lake Cerkno, which brings with frogs and a huge pike.
