Carnival in Ptuj (Slovenia)
Hi incurable travelers, the goal that I wanted is today reporting Ptuj (Slovenia) and its carnival.
Siovenia In many places, celebrating its Pust, Carnival. A festival with ancient roots, which re-dances, masks, legends and traditions of great charm and this time there are several minute which is a shame not to take advantage. The moment when the winter is less cold and the beginning of the new agricultural cycle in the tradition of Slovenia have the cheerful sign of Pust, Carnival. It was a time of a period of revelry, which revived the pagan rites and upset the social order, but especially in the Siovenia Pust was linked to the dances and the masks of the peasants. Today in many places Slovenian trying to restore these traditional festivals.
Among the most interesting Carnevali, is undoubtedly one of Ptuj (in Italian Petrov), a city of Roman origin in the lower valley of the Drava, the ideal destination for those who enjoy the pleasures of wine, cuisine and spas and nature walks.
The protagonist here is the figure of Pust Kurent or, as it is called here, Korant, form dark animalistic traits that seem to sprout from the mists of time.
The Kurent is nothing but a loud "hunter of the winter, dressed in a fur of sheep, surrounded by a chain from which hang bells and handkerchiefs. On her head a terrifying mask, adorned with feathers, horns and colorful ribbons. These masks are a national symbol: appear on stamps, participate in several folk events abroad and can be enjoyed year-round in the relevant section of the museum housed in the Castle.
Since 1960, Ptuj, each year organizes the popular Kurentovanje, (now known as the Carnival in Ptuj) in a festival which, together with Korant, traditional parade and carnival figures evoke land uses. From
Markovci, and Podlehnik Lančov vas, villages near Ptuj arrive "cultivators" who over the centuries Past traced the first furrows. Other masks are rusa, representing animals, the devil, the grandfather and grandmother, gypsies, fairies and ploharji (who must drag a beam through the village). Lately
Pust Ptuj has become more cosmopolitan, thanks to the inclusion of other figures "Dionysian" similar to Korant, also from other European countries.
Among the most representative buildings is the famous Castle of Ptuj, which now houses an interesting museum, which includes elegant with original furniture, paintings and antiques on the ground floor there are the ancient musical instruments, while the second floor traditional masks are visible in the area, which can be seen during Carnival.
In the old town is the wine cellar, which has a tradition of more than 700 years and retains the oldest Slovenian wine (1917). A
Cerknica however, the symbolic figure shooting in forms (which is no trace in documents of 1551) is that of Ursula, an old witch, with a tooth, and hump himself, always straddled the broom is considered the progenitor and the progenitor of all the witches.
This is a figure from the time of the Reformation when Cerknica was epicenter of the witch hunt. Cerknica is "visited" even JEZERKA, a legendary monster of Lake Cerkno, which brings with frogs and a huge pike. Finally, there are Martin Krpan with his mare and Butalci, the inhabitants of the imaginary country of Butala, creators of outlandish pranks.
addition to the single intermittent lake near Cerknica you can visit the cave Jama Križna with twenty-two underground lakes and Sneznik century castle, one of the few come down to us intact with original furnishings.
Cerkno A typical Carnival masks, laufarji these are real works of art crafts made of wood, leaves, pine cones, moss and straw. laufarji The family includes 24 characters: the central figure is the Pust, Carnival, wearing a horned mask and a costume that can weigh up to 80 pounds, was sentenced to death after a mock trial, which recognizes him guilty of all the mistakes made during the year on earth.
Near Cerkno are a popular ski resort, a cave adorned with beautiful concretions of aragonite and partisan hospital hidden in a canyon stream. A
Drežnica, the people renew every year faithfully, ancient carnival costumes. In this time of year you can see the locals while wearing the old traditional forms, such PstI, made from the skins of sheep and colored strips of cloth, to give life to a battle with dusty bags of ashes. The masks, built partly of wood, are the most illustrious tradition of this area.
